Blogging in Draft

It's a good feature for those who want to keep their blogs updated daily but have no time to update daily. With this Draft feature, all you have to do is prepare your posting, and set the post date and time to a date and time you wished your post to be appeared to your visitor.

If you are going holiday, and think that you won't have enough time for the posting, just use this. Do your posting in draft before you go holiday. Sign in from:

Then sign in and start your posting as usual.
When you have finished your posting, don't publish first, but Click Post Options and then set the post date and time to a desired date and time.

Do this for the rest of your posting to make sure that you blog seems to be updated daily, even though you have never posted on the date.

This is just a simple tip for bloggers who don't have time to post every day but want to have daily updates.

PS/2 port on Mainboard malfunction

The drawer of a computer table (where the keyboard is put) should be carefully pushed back after using the computer. Recently there's someone I knew who unpurposely pushed the drawer a bit too hard and that caused the keyboard to drop down through the hole behind the drawer. Because the drawer was not entirely closed at the inside. This caused the keyboad and mouse become malfunction.

I was very surprised, how come the fall of the keyboard could cause both the keyboard and mouse to be malfunctioned. Really strange. I thought perhaps the main cause was because of the connector of the keyboard on the mainboard PS/2 slot was pulled down. Of course, this could probably be the main cause of the defect.

I tried changing the keyboard and mouse BUT nothing happened. They just didn't work at all. I began to worry whether I have to change the mainboard, just because of this small incident.

Then I realized that there's a connector that we can plug into the USB on the mainboard and the other end of the connector is the PS/2 slot for keyboard and mouse. I bought it and installed the connector. The connector worked perfectly. Luckily, I can still have PS/2 ports without having to change my mainboard. I just spent US $2.50 for the connector.

Actually, there's another solution. That is using USB keyboard and mouse. But the cost should be at least around US $10.

Restoring Folder Options

Sometimes, certain virus can hide itself from being seen by changing the folder attribute to HIDDEN. To do this the virus will also add NoFolderOptions to the registry. So, you can't activate the Folder options menu.

Of course to remove virus, you will just need antivirus. However, when antivirus can't do that, you still need to do it manually by the following steps:

• Click Start then click Run or use Windows shortcut + R (the button is between Ctrl and Alt)

• Next, type "regedit"Then, Find

[HKEY_CRNT_USR\SW\Msoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
D WORD “NoFolderOptions”

• Delete the NoFolderOptions registry and exit.
  

This should solve the problems and restore the Folder Options menu.

Faster web address typing with shortcut

There is a shortcut when you are using Firefox for typing the web address. The shortcut is F6. This shortcut for moving the "insertion point" directly to web address is bar seems to be useless cause you can use your mouse easily by clicking on it. But when you are using laptop PC and not using mouse (only with the touch pad), you will find that this is very necessary cause it moves faster than the touch pad. This shortcut is also very useful when you are going to search for something. You can press F6 and Tab to move to Search Bar. Compaer the speed of using touch pad and shortcut.

Google PageRank button for your blog

Google PageRank can be easily seen when you have Google Toolbar installed on your browser. If you are a webmaster and your website holds a high rank, you probably want your website pagerank to be seen by your visitors. PIvot - a simple program to create stickman animation

Pivot is a simple freeware you can use to create simple stickman animation. Therefore, this is a simple program, it's still quite to fun to play with. All you have to do is to change the stickman picture by moving the red dot. It's so easy that you don't need to know anything about flash to create it. After altering the picture for one frame, you can then change the picture again for the next frame. The final result of this animation is in GIF format. Click here to download.

Using autoscroll when reading a long document

Perhaps, you've known this tip. But if you haven't known yet, please read this short article. Nowadays, a mouse usually has 2 buttons (left and right button) and a scroll button between the two buttons. This scroll is usually used for scrolling the window, like in Microsoft Word or scroll while surfing the internet. Usually people scroll the mouse when they want to move up or down the screen rather than clicking on the horizontal or vertical scroll bar.

This scroll button is actually very useful when you are reading a long document whether offline or online. It has an ability to scroll automatically, slowly or quickly. To try this:

1. Open a long document or visit an online e-book site like http://www.fullbooks.com. After that, click the middle scroll button.
2. You will see a navigation pointer appear on the screen. Move your mouse slowly to auto scroll slowly. You can also try moving your mouse quickly.
3. To disable autoscroll, simply click the navigation pointer with your middle scroll button.

It's like watching Credits at the end of a movie, isn't it? You don't have to put your hand on the mouse while reading a long story anymore. Simple indeed, isn't it?

GamesWagon is a site that I just found. There are many game sites on the internet, but this one consists of many games. You find online games and also full download games. I prefer free download games cause you don't have to be online. Some online games let you play online or download for trial. You can buy the full version after trial. It's nice site for playing and downloading games.

Quick Image Resize using Faststone Image Viewer

Fast Stone Image Viewer is my favorite image viewer. It's free and also very powerful. Thumbs up for the programmer. I already have a post about it, but I can't stop myself from reviewing this freeware. It's a lose if we don't have this great and free viewer.

Quick Resize is a function that makes image resizing in Faststone Image Viewer easier. To resize an image, simply follow these steps:
1. Open the image file you want to resize, then move your mouse pointer to the right.
2. After that you will see the menu. Click Quick Resize.
3. Then select the resolution you want. You will see that image is resized after you click.
4. Move the pointer to the right again. Click Save As to save the file with a new name.
5. Type in the file name and click Save. Just that simple.

N.B.
On the save dialog box, you can also adjust the Jpeg options and compare the picture by clicking Options button.

Fun Sound Environment Setting with Realtek

If you have a new ASUS mainboard for your PC, you'll probably be using Realtek as the onboard sound driver. To see whether you are using Realtek or not, simply check the icon on the notification area on your taskbar (at the right corner). Look at the icon. To adjust the sound effect, just double click on the icon.

Click the Environment drop down list to see what environment setting you can select. If you have selected one of them, then open a music or audio player. You will then find that the song or the music or the vocal you play is different now. Just like what you hear in the environment. If you play song after selecting auditorium, you will of course hear the song just like in an auditorium. To return to normal sound, choose none.

Fasterfox - Increasing Firefox speed

Firefox is actually a quite fast browser. But there's a way to make it run faster, that is by installing Fasterfox addon. This addon will manage bandwidth automatically for you, so that your Firefox will run faster and smoothly. Also when you have installed Fasterfox addon, you can see the small icon of Fasterfox at your Firefox status bar. It shows the loading page speed of an url you visit. Burning voice record files of MP3/MP4 Player

Two weeks ago, my friend just bought a new MP4 player. It comes with voice record feature. And actually her purpose of buying this is just to use it as a voice recorder. It's a SIMBADDA mp4 Player. The voice quality of the voice recorder is only 32K.

After testing the voice recorder, she asked me to help her burn the voice file which is in Wave format into a blank disc to use as an Audio CD.

I tried adding the wave files into my Nero Express, but surprisingly Nero didn't want to accept the wave files. This also happened when I recorded voice with other brands of MP3/MP4 player. Then I tried using ISOpen 4.4.1 to convert the wave files into mp3 (I also tried converting to wave again), and it works. At last, I could have my converted voice file added to Nero for burning into an AudioCD. Remember, when a program cannot recognize a format, just use a converter.

Shortcut for changing page text size in Firefox browser

If you find that the text is too small on your Firefox browser, you can press CTRL and + together. So that the size is enlarge. You can press again to enlarge more. To reduce the size, just press CTRL and - together. Try it.

Taking out disc from CD/DVD ROM Drive after black out

Have you ever had this experience? Your disc is left inside the CD/DVD ROM Drive after black out. Well, I have such experience. I was at my friend's house using the computer. Suddenly, there was a black out and my CD was left inside the CD drive. I couldn't take it out by pressing the eject button. But how to take out the disc?

Well, it quite easy, all you have to do is to push the small hole (there's only one small hole) with a paper clip or something alike maybe a needle will also do. But I prefer using a paper clip. After the tray is ejected, pull the tray slowly and take out the disc. Just that simple.

You can put at least a paper clip as one of your computer solution tools. An eraser is also important for a technician when you want to solve some memory module problems. Search for my post on this.

For those who like listening to music, never ever miss this tiny freeware. Tiny Web Radio is really a simple program that is fast install, fast program running and fast buffering. This makes the program so special. It's so small that you can bring it anywhere with your USB.
Listen to music of the 50s till 90s. There are so many stations you can select. You can also record them to mp3 or ogg. So, great enjoying music while surfing cause it's so portable. Thanks to the author. Click here to download.

Reducing risk of downloading virus infected program

Searching and downloading a program from an unknown site is something quite risky. So, it's better to download from a site like: http://www.download.com if you want to search for a program. On this site, sometimes you can see reviews by visitors or those who have downloaded or used the program. By this way, you can reduce the first risk. It's also my trusted site for downloading freeware.

Then another precaution for downloading is to look at the date when the program added to the database. If the program is about a year old, even without review, it's still safer to download compared to those with newer date added program. This is to ensure that with newer database of our antivirus, the antivirus can detect older viruses. If the file already infected by viruses, then at least your antivirus probably has known it as a virus because it's older than the database. It could possibly be detected rather than those newly created file which has probably been infected by new viruses. This is just a common sense and just a piece of advice from me. Perhaps, you don't think so. And actually I am not saying 0% risk, but I am saying lower risk only.

Always update your antivirus. This is the best precaution. If the updating involves antivirus database and antivirus engine, you should update both. Cause updating both will make the antivirus program run perfectly.

Paper just won't go through printer

Sometimes, if you buy too thin inkjet paper or low quality printer paper, especially those paper which is not manufactured by company like Epson, Canon or HP, you'll sometimes find that the paper just won't go throught the printer.

I met this problem many times when using this kind of paper with Epson printer. And I usually hold the paper and push it to help it go through the printer manually. Printing on low quality inkjet paper, sometimes needs patient. And sometimes, using this holding and pushing method will drive you crazy cause for printing a few pages only will take up to 30 minutes or more. It's different from printing on plain paper because inkjet paper has a special coated side. And perhaps that's the disadvantage of low priced paper.

To solve this problem, besides holding and pushing, we can also put thick paper or card board to support the paper back. I mean put it in front of the upper supporting tray. And so that the paper will be push to front a bit. This also cause the paper to stand up a little more. This is a new tip I just found. If this won't work, you can also try bending the part of paper that will first go into the printer. Hope these tips help a little and work as the solution.

In my earliest post, I actually have posted about e-greetings and e-flowers. Search for the post if you like to read about e-greetings. This time, I found another site with beautiful e-card again.

It's also from miniclip.com. This site provides beautiful cartoon e-card. It's suitable for sending to a friend as greeting. It varies from birthday, get well, sorry, love, valentine's day and more. As usual, you can type message to send with your card picture. It's so easy and just take a little time to complete the process. This is the link:

Caution against downloaded files

Here are two things to remember when you want to download a new program or an add-on for your browser.

First, be careful when downloading.
Make sure your antivirus is working and updated. It's really easy to be infected by virus when you have no antivirus installed, if possible use more than one antivirus. I myself use two: avira antivir and avast antivirus (As long as your computer doesn't hang after installing the second antivirus, I think it's still ok). Installing two antivirus running together also means higher protection against viruses because both antivirus probably have different virus database.

Second, be careful after downloading.
Scan your downloaded files after download is also a protection against virus. Or perhaps you want to let your antivirus detect the virus when it appears. This is still ok. If it's possible to clean or the virus, take this action first. Otherwise, move it to quarantine.

After downloading, I ran the setup, but during installation, my antivir pop up and said that it detected a virus. See, how useful it is to have two antivirus installed because when one antivirus cannot detect, perhaps another can. And most of all, antivirus with up-to-date database is more important than many antivirus but with outdated database.

Miniclip Games is a website full of mini online games. You can also share the games by e-mail, post a blog/website or share by IM. The games are listed alphabetically. You can also find games by categories. There are also some downloadable games.

You probably need to install Shockwave Player to play the games. If you haven't downloaded Shockwave Player plugins, just click the download plugins to install automatically.

How to capture two windows on the desktop easily

Have you read my previous posts before this one? Look at the snapshots of the program. The background is white while there are two windows. One is above another. If the windows are on the desktop. And you capture directly with your screen capture program, you'll probably get some unwanted portions of the desktop screen (I mean the portion of the wallpaper). Compare the pictures. The left one is clear without background wallpaper and the right one is with background wallpaper. You can still see the desktop icons. If you capture the screen directly, you can still edit with some photo editing software or even use Microsoft Paint.

But you don't have to do that. No editing required to remove the background or change it to white color. All you have to do is have a white screen behind the two windows. For example, you can run Microsoft Word and let it be behind the two windows. After that just capture with your favorite screen capture utility. I myself use Screen Hunter 5.0 Free. You can find it in my blog, too. Simple indeed, isn't it?

Remembering password can be something difficult when we have many different accounts on many websites. It's so hard that we probably have to write down with a pen or type in program like Notepad or Word.

Old mainboard IDE broken, mainboard useless?

Recently, my friend's computer has just broken. It just can't boot. I thought that the problem is with the operating system. But it's not. Then, I tried changing the harddisk with my good condition harddisk. I found that it seemed to be the problem with the mainboard. The IDE slot of the mainboard perhaps has broken. If this happens, it means you can't do anything with your harddisk. You can't install the harddisk. But very funny, I can boot from the CD ROM Drive. It should be the problem with the cable.
Then I asked a technician to check and he said that it should be the mainboard that cannot detect the harddisk. This means I can't install my harddisk anymore.
Should I throw away the mainboard since only boot from CD ROM? I don't think so. Perhaps I can use light weight distro Linux installed on a USB flash disk. Luckily the mainboard supports boot from USB flash disk. And I think that's the solution. At least I can use my computer with the flash disk for doing some simple office work.

What to do when paper jammed?

Paper jam in the printer do occasionally happens. When this happen, all you have to do is to take out the jammed paper (perhaps with the help of the RESUME button after turning off and on again). After the jammed paper is taken out, sometimes if the paper is torn a bit, some small pieces left by the jammed paper will be stucked in the roller.

To remove the stucked pieces, simply put a thicker paper on the tray and press RESUME BUTTON. The paper will go inside (like ready to print. But stop at the roller). Press RESUME button again to let the paper out. By doing this you'll find the small pieces of paper stucked in the roller will be pushed out by the double RESUME actions.

If the paper jam doesn't leave any torn paper inside, you don't have to do this. Just pull the paper slowly (never use force) or use the RESUME button.
