Running DOS Game smoothly

Do you still have old DOS game?

If you do, can you run the game normally just like you can do in real dos mode under Windows?

There are a few tips for running the game.

If you can't run it very normally, try using compatibility mode in Windows.

Right click the game and choose properties.

Then click on Compatibility and choose Windows 95.

If you can play the game, but cannot run it normally or it runs without sound effect, you can try to use DOS BOX, it's a DOS mode emulation program, so that your old game can run smoothly.

DOS BOX can be downloaded from:

Free and Easy OCR Tools

Have you ever had a problem retyping text that need use on your project from a magazine or a text book?
Well, actually you can a scanner. Scan the text you want and process it with the Optical Character Reading (OCR) program that included with your scanner when you bought it.
This makes retyping unnecessary, because OCR programs convert your scanned images into editable text.

You may also download the free version of OCR tools from http://www.ocrtools.com/
which you can convert jpg to text.

If you have a very good camera (or maybe your mobile phone camera), you can try capturing a picture of your textbook text and use the OCR tools to convert into text.

Try it and save your time from retyping text!

Screen Capture

Screen capture is easy to do by pressing Print Screen (PrtScn) button on the keyboard. But, it's not very effective when we just want to capture a small region of the screen.

We may use Screen Capture program such as Camtasia or SnagIt.
By using the program, we can capture not only static screen but also video.

Usually screen capture is useful for the making of computer text book. And video screen capture is normally used for computer tutorial. The captured video can be burnt to a disc to make computer video tutorial disc.

Well, if you just a simple and small program for capturing screen, I suggest using Zapgrab. It's a free and you can download from http://www.zapgrab.net/
It's also very small, only about 25 KB. Try it!

Recovering deleted files

A few months ago, one of my friend deleted her favourite photos from memory card. The photos was probably quite important to her. She called for my help and I helped her searching for a program that could recover a deleted file.

Then I found a program called File Recovery on http://www.download.com/
Or you may type "File Recovery" on the Search. You'll find lots of file recovering programs.

Well, normally when we delete a file, it will automatically be moved to Recycle Bin. But what if we have deleted it unpurposely from Recycle Bin?
Don't worry, all files deleted from Recycle Bin can still be recovered using File Recovery software.

Just remember 2 things:
First, don't start any defragmenting program after that until you recover the file.
Secondly, don't create another file using the same name with the file name that you deleted.

In this was, the chance of recovering it will be higher.

Feel free to try by visiting http://www.download.com/
You'll also find many useful freeware.

Thanks to my friend who had asked me this problem. And this is my first post for computer.

Welcome to my first post

Yes, it's my first post. I like sharing my knowledge about computer with everyone (and maybe some gift ideas and English language learning games for kids - but I will concentrate more on computer.).
And that's why I created this blog.

This is my first post and I'd like to hear your comment. Feel free to drop your comment.

I hope that I can contribute a little to the three topics above, therefore I'm not an expert.

And I'd try my best to post all I know about the topics.

Thanks for all of your attention.
